Eligibility Requirement
Shadow Days are open to students currently in grades 10–12 or adult learners.
Important Registration Policy
Students may only be registered for one Shadow Day at a time. Registering for multiple dates will result in only the first registration being kept and all additional registrations being canceled.
If you are interested in exploring more than one program, please note that you can experience multiple programs during a single visit. We kindly ask that you refrain from signing up for multiple Shadow Days.
Dress Code Requirements
To ensure the safety of all visitors during kitchen tours and throughout the facility, we kindly ask that all student participants and their accompanying guardians follow the dress code below:
- Footwear: Closed-toe and enclosed-heel shoes are required (e.g., sneakers). No Crocs, flip-flops, or sandals permitted.
- Attire: Pants are required (no shorts, skirts, or dresses), along with shirts that have sleeves. No tank tops or sleeveless shirts permitted.
These guidelines are in place to maintain a safe and professional environment for everyone.
How to Register
- Use the calendar below to select the date and time that works best for you.
- Please schedule your visit at least one week in advance.
- After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with your visit details.
Cancellations
If you are unable to attend your scheduled Shadow Day, please email Jacob Rhodes at least one week in advance, if possible, so we can open your spot for another student.
If you accidentally registered for the wrong date, please email Jacob Rhodes as soon as possible so your registration can be updated.
Special Requests
Special requests are not guaranteed. Please submit any special requests at least four business days in advance.
Culinary Arts Shadow Day Schedule
10:15 am - 1:00 pm
10:15 a.m. — Check-In
- Check-in at the first-floor main atrium at NFCI
- Parking ticket validation
- Shadow Day welcome and instructions
- Apron and hat provided to Shadow Day participants
10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. — Laboratory Experience
- Students will participate in approved Culinary Arts laboratory experiences.
- Laboratory assignments will vary depending on the classes being offered that day, space availability, safety considerations, and faculty approval.
- Certain laboratories, including some production labs, may be unavailable to Shadow Day participants.
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. — Lunch in Savor
- Complimentary lunch is provided for the prospective student and one accompanying parent or guardian.
- Additional family members or guests are responsible for purchasing their own lunch.
Baking & Pastry Arts Shadow Day Schedule
10:15 am - 1:00 pm
10:15 a.m. — Check-In
- Check-in at the first-floor main atrium at NFCI
- Parking ticket validation
- Shadow Day welcome and instructions
- Apron and hat provided to Shadow Day participants

- Complimentary lunch is provided for the prospective student and one accompanying parent or guardian.

Hospitality Shadow Day Schedule
10:15 am - 1:00 pm

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. — Hospitality Experience in Savor
- Students will spend time in Savor, NFCI’s student-operated restaurant, gaining firsthand experience in a professional restaurant environment.
- Shadow current Hospitality students and observe restaurant operations, including guest service, dining room management, and service techniques.
- Connect with students and faculty to learn more about the Hospitality program and career opportunities in the industry.
- Activities will vary based on restaurant operations, class schedules, and faculty availability.
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. — Lunch in Savor
- Enjoy lunch in Savor and experience the restaurant from a guest’s perspective.
- Complimentary lunch is provided for the prospective student and one accompanying parent or guardian.
- Additional family members or guests are responsible for purchasing their own lunch.
